Hydrographic survey vessels switch to lower-emission marine fuel

Arctia Group’s hydrographic survey vessels will from now on run on lower-emission marine fuel. From June 2023, the vessels will gradually start using Neste Marine 0.1 Co-processed marine fuel, in the production of which part of the crude oil-based raw materials have been replaced by renewable raw materials. Using ISCC PLUS certified marine fuel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% over the entire life cycle of the fuel compared to fossil fuel.
Since summer 2022, hydrographic survey boats have already been using Neste MY renewable fuel, and now the Arctia Group’s vehicle fleet will also switch to a lower-emission fuel. Neste MY renewable diesel will reduce the carbon footprint of the marine fleet and Arctia’s vehicle fleet by up to 90% compared to fossil diesel.
“As a provider of icebreaking, fairway maintenance and hydrographic services, Arctia plays an important role in enabling waterborne transports in Finnish and international waters. Like other shipping companies, we are committed to IMO, EU and national emission reduction targets and to doing our valuable work more responsibly,” says Maunu Visuri, CEO.
“We have one of the largest hydrographic survey fleets in Northern Europe. Every year, we survey thousands of square kilometres of seabed to the highest international quality standards, not only in Finland but also in other European waters. Switching to renewable fuels will significantly reduce our carbon footprint,” says Lauri Pöyhönen, SVP, Hydrographic Surveying.
