Fleet and equipment
Arctia’s icebreakers operate in Finland’s coastal waters when required by the weather conditions, ensuring reliable sea connections for Finland’s industries also in the winter. Icebreakers ensure the safety of winter navigation and assist merchant vessels by opening lanes, towing ships and dislodging vessels from the ice. Arctia’s icebreaking fleet consists of eight icebreakers: Polaris, Otso, Kontio, Voima, Urho, Sisu, Fennica and Nordica as well as harbor icebreaker Ahto. The most recent addition to the fleet is Polaris, the world’s first icebreaker to use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel.
Arctia has Northern Europe’s largest fleet of survey vessels and platforms. Arctia Mobile Survey Platform is available for assignments worldwide, even in smaller ports and harbours where larger vessels cannot operate. Surveys are carried out with the latest survey technologies, including multibeam, singlebeam, side scan sonar, sub bottom profiler, ROV, laser scanning and scanning sonar equipment, supplemented with geotechnical field tests when needed. Survey results are analysed and refined with high quality modelling tools.
In addition, Arctia’s fleet includes three fairway vessels suitable for heavy marine operations, one Oili class vessel suitable for medium-heavy tasks and several Meri1000, Meri2000 and Meri4000 class fairway maintenance vessels as well as a versatile hydraulic engineering fleet.
Arctia’s icebreakers include the conventional icebreakers Voima, Urho and Sisu, Otso and Kontio, the multipurpose icebreakers Fennica and Nordica, harbour icebreaker Ahto, as well as Polaris, which is the world’s first icebreaker to use liquefied natural gas, LNG, as fuel and designed for the most challenging ice conditions in the Baltic Sea.
